22 March 2025, Headquarters, Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha, 133 B Model Town East, Ghaziabad: Today, in a meeting of the Ghaziabad unit of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha, the problem and solution of increasing pollution was discussed.
National President of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha, Veer Chakra recipient Colonel Tejendra Pal Tyagi said that due to air pollution, especially PM 2.5, the lung capacity of children is decreasing at a very fast pace. There is a treatment for water pollution or noise pollution, but once the lung capacity of children is reduced due to air pollution, then it cannot be increased by any treatment in the world. These children will not be able to enjoy life when they grow up. We cannot see our future generation getting destroyed.
Problem:
Even one of the following duties of pollution control units is not being fully worked upon:
Setting environmental standards: The safe level of PM 2.5 in the US is 20 micrograms per cubic meter. Here, the pollution control units have already made the limit three times more polluted by keeping it at 60 micrograms per cubic meter.
Monitoring and enforcement: Pollution control units have only 3 employees, they cannot inspect thousands of factories and their ETPs. This is a basic lie.
Technical assistance: As per our knowledge, Ghaziabad's pollution control unit has not provided any technical assistance to any residential or industrial unit.
Public awareness: Forget about public awareness campaigns, the administration and pollution unit do not even take cognizance of the suggestions of civil society.
Research and development: Has PCB installed equipment to measure PM1? If this has not been done, then what research should be expected?
Role of advisor: This is completely wrong. Pollution control unit Ghaziabad is scared of even writing a letter to the district administration.
Planning comprehensive programs: Yes, such plans have been made that Ghaziabad stands in the first row in the field of pollution.
Issuing NOC for pollution control: This is the only work that we have done 100%, only they will know the reason.
Suggestion:
Our suggestion is that at least half of the pollution control units should be manned by ex-servicemen. Every ex-serviceman is a symbol of dedication, discipline and honesty. The proof of this is that in India of 140 crore people, an army of 13 lakhs also guards the borders and whenever any natural or artificial disaster strikes the country, the army is called in and the situation is brought under control. For pollution control, the vigilance of ex-servicemen should be relied upon to control the polluting factories.
