January 6, 2026, Gandhi Smriti, 30 January Marg, New Delhi – Today, in preparation for the arrival of the Honorable Prime Minister of India on January 30th, former Union Minister, the Honorable Shri Vijay Goel, organized a program here. Many highly distinguished and respected personalities from Delhi attended this program.
Speaking on this occasion, Colonel Tejinder Pal Tyagi, recipient of the "Vir Chakra" and National President of the National Soldiers' Association, put forward the idea of ??abolishing the “Veto Power” in the United Nations Security Council. Today, when the US President Donald Trump is openly violating Article 2 of the UN Charter against Venezuela, and threatening action against Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Iran, and Greenland, and American senators are even talking about imposing a 500% additional tariff on India, all this is happening because of the power of the veto – which is illegal and should be abolished.
Colonel Tyagi said that for world peace, India should raise its voice to abolish the veto power because its origins lie with our representative, Sir Arcot Ramaswamy Mudaliar, in 1945. He explained that Dr. Shahryar Sharif, Director of the Center for United Nations Constitutional Research (CUNCR), has revealed India's very important role according to UN documents. Based on the 1945 documents, India had stipulated a 10-year expiry date on the Security Council and the “Veto Power” as a condition for its crucial "yes vote" for the establishment of the United Nations Charter. Sir Arcot Ramaswamy Mudaliar, former Dewan of Mysore and the first President of UNESCO, representing India and acting as the spokesperson for the majority of states against the veto in San Francisco, firmly presented the following proposal to Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill: that the veto provision in the United Nations could be amended if two-thirds of the General Assembly members and any nine members of the Security Council, with or without the five permanent members, supported it. This proposal was subsequently incorporated into Article 109 of the UN Charter.
Padma Shri Jagmohan Singh Rajput, former Director of NCERT, supported Colonel Tyagi's proposal and stated that there is a tremendous need to work on this proposal.
On this occasion, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, Mr. Satpal, Mr. Saurabh Gandhi, General Secretary of United Residents Delhi, Mr. Gyan Singh, Vice President of the Uttar Pradesh unit of CORWA, Mr. Chandan Singh, Mr. Ganesh Dutt, Mr. Ashok Nagpal, Mr. Sanjay, and hundreds of other dignitaries extended their best wishes to Mr. Vijay Goel and pledged their support for the arrangements during the Prime Minister's visit on January 30th.
